How to Install the Datto RMM Agent on Your Mac (Including Screen Recording Permissions)

Installing the Datto RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) agent allows Techedge Services to manage and support your Mac effectively. Follow these friendly, step-by-step instructions to install the agent and set up all necessary permissions, including screen recording.

 

Step 1: Download the Datto RMM Agent

 1.   Access the Download Link:

      •   From a URL: Open your web browser and navigate to the URL provided by Techedge Services.

      •   From a Downloaded File: Locate the installer file you received from Techedge Services, usually found in your Downloads folder.

 2.   Download the Installer:

      •   If using a URL, click on the download link to save the installer to your Mac.

 

Step 2: Install the Datto RMM Agent

 1.   Open the Installer:

      •   Double-click the downloaded installer file (it might have a .pkg or .dmg extension).

 2.   Run the Installation Wizard:

      •   A window will appear guiding you through the installation process.

      •   Click Continue to proceed through the prompts.

 3.   Accept the License Agreement:

      •   Read through the license terms and click Agree to accept.

 4.   Choose the Installation Location:

      •   Usually, you can leave this set to the default location.

      •   Click Continue or Install.

 5.   Authenticate the Installation:

      •   When prompted, enter your Mac administrator username and password.

      •   Click Install Software.

 6.   Complete the Installation:

      •   Wait for the installation to finish.

      •   Click Close when it’s done.

 

Step 3: Adjust Privacy & Security Settings

To ensure the agent functions correctly, you’ll need to grant it certain permissions, including full disk access, accessibility, and screen recording.

 1.   Open System Preferences:

      •   Click on the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.

      •   Select System Preferences (or System Settings on macOS Ventura and later).

 2.   Navigate to Privacy & Security:

      •   Click on Security & Privacy (icon with a house and a lock).

      •   On newer macOS versions, select Privacy & Security directly and continue to 4. Grant Full Disk Access.

 3.   Unlock Settings:

      •   Click the lock icon in the bottom-left corner.

      •   Enter your administrator username and password to make changes.

 4.   Grant Full Disk Access:

      •   In the sidebar scroll down and select Full Disk Access.

      •   Toggle the switch on for AEM Agent, if it’s not listed there then click the + button to add an application.

      •   Navigate to Applications

      •   Select the AEM Agent or Datto RMM Agent application and click Open.

      •   Ensure the checkbox next to the agent is checked.

 5.   Enable Accessibility Access:

      •   In the sidebar, select Accessibility.

      •   Click the + button.

      •   Navigate to and select the AEM Agent or Datto RMM Agent as before.

      •   Click Open and ensure it’s checked in the list.

 6.   Enable Screen Recording Permissions:

      •   In the sidebar, select Screen Recording or Screen & System Audio Recording.

      •   Click the + button.

      •   Navigate to the AEM Agent or Datto RMM Agent application.

             •   It might be located in ApplicationsUtilities, or the same Application Support folder as before.

      •   Select the AEM Agent or Datto RMM Agent and click Open.

      •   Ensure the checkbox next to the agent is checked.

      •   Note: You may be prompted to quit the application for the changes to take effect. If so, click Quit & Reopen.

 7.   Approve Kernel Extensions (if prompted):

      •   If a message appears about system software from Datto needing approval:

             •   Go back to the General tab in Security & Privacy.

             •   Click Allow next to the message about Datto software.

 8.   Restart Your Mac (if required):

      •   Some changes may require a restart. Save any open work and restart your Mac if prompted.

 

Step 4: Verify the Agent is Running

 1.   Check the Menu Bar:

      •   Look for the Datto RMM agent icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen.

 2.   Confirm Connectivity:

      •   The agent should automatically connect to Techedge Services.

      •   You can click on the agent icon to view its status.
