Basic Troubleshooting Steps for OneDrive Not Syncing

1. Check Internet Connection:

      •   Ensure the device is connected to the internet.

      •   Test the connection by opening a web page or running a speed test.

    2.   Verify OneDrive Service Status:

      •   Visit the Microsoft Service Status page to check for any ongoing outages affecting OneDrive.

    3.   Restart OneDrive Application:

      •   Windows:

             •   Click the OneDrive icon in the system tray (near the clock).

             •   Select Help & Settings (gear icon) > Close OneDrive.

             •   Restart OneDrive from the Start menu or by searching for “OneDrive.”

      •   Mac:

             •   Click the OneDrive icon in the menu bar.

             •   Select Quit OneDrive.

             •   Relaunch OneDrive from the Applications folder.

    4.   Ensure You’re Signed In:

      •   Open OneDrive settings.

      •   Confirm that the customer is signed in with the correct Microsoft account.

    5.   Check for Updates:

      •   Windows:

             •   Right-click the OneDrive icon > Settings > About tab.

             •   Click Version to see if updates are available.

      •   Mac:

             •   Use the App Store to check for OneDrive updates.

    6.   Verify Storage Space:

      •   Ensure there is enough local disk space and OneDrive cloud storage space.

      •   Check storage by signing into OneDrive online.

    7.   Pause and Resume Syncing:

      •   Click the OneDrive icon.

      •   Select Help & Settings > Pause syncing > Choose a duration.

      •   After pausing, go back and select Resume syncing.

    8.   Check File Name and Path Length:

      •   Ensure file names don’t contain invalid characters like \ / : * ? " < > |.

      •   Keep file paths under 400 characters.

    9.   Review Sync Errors:

      •   Click the OneDrive icon to view any error messages.

      •   Follow prompts to resolve specific errors (e.g., file conflicts).

  10.   Reset OneDrive:

      •   Windows:

             •   Press Windows Key + R to open Run dialog.

             •   Enter %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset and click OK.

             •   If OneDrive doesn’t restart automatically, launch it manually.

      •   Mac:

             •   Open Terminal.

             •   Type killall OneDrive; rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.OneDrive-mac and press Enter.

             •   Restart OneDrive from Applications.

  11.   Check Sync Folder Location:

      •   Ensure the OneDrive folder hasn’t been moved or renamed.

      •   Verify sync settings in OneDrive preferences.

  12.   Verify File Permissions:

      •   Make sure the customer has permission to access and modify the files.

      •   For shared folders, confirm they have edit rights.

  13.   Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily:

      •   Antivirus or firewall software might block syncing.

      •   Temporarily disable them to see if syncing resumes.

  14.   Unlink and Relink OneDrive Account:

      •   Click the OneDrive icon > Help & Settings > Settings.

      •   Go to the Account tab and select Unlink this PC.

      •   Follow the setup wizard to sign in and relink the account.

  15.   Ensure OS is Updated:

      •   Check for and install any pending Windows or macOS updates.

  16.   Run OneDrive Troubleshooter (Windows):

      •   Download the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to diagnose and fix issues.

  17.   Check for Conflicting Applications:

      •   Close other apps that might use files in the OneDrive folder.
